PPCTU has launched a GoFundME campaign to fund the purchase of much needed new fly ting equipment to replace our older collection.

Our local chapter of Pikes Peak Trout Unlimited is looking for donations to cover the costs of fly tying equipment such as new vises/pedestals, hooks, tools, and fly tying materials.

Any donation will help make an impact. We have been volunteering in our community to teach about river and trout habitat conservation in our region since 1986. More recently, PPCTU commonly goes to K-12 schools to teach the kids about the status of Colorado’s state fish: the endangered species of Greenback Cutthroat Trout. One of our most popular outreach programs is teaching fly tying to classes of youth.

Over the years, our fly tying equipment – in particular the vises and tools – have become nearly inoperable due to heavy use. Plus, we have exhausted our ample supplies of donated fly tying materials.

For a mere $1000, we can replace our equipment with new, heart vises and tools plus order at wholesale prices, the materials needed to the specific patterns.

The format is for each kid to have their own set-up, not shared. One instructor leads the class and a team of volunteers helps one-on-one with each student. It’s great fun and a very powerful lesson in memory for the status of our native fish.

More information about Pikes Peak Trout Unlimited: Pikes Peak Trout Unlimited (formerly Cheyenne Mountain Chapter of Trout Unlimited) is a conservation organization devoted to restoring and protecting cold water fisheries and reintroducing and protecting the endangered Colorado Native Green Back Cutthroat Trout in the Pikes Peak Region, including the South Platte River system in Park County. We also engage the public through classes and volunteer projects for river habitat restoration.
