Hey – Heads up! CUSP (Coalition for the Upper South Platte) needs volunteers for repairing the Gill Trail, which access Cheeseman tailwaters from the upper parking area. They already implemented a restoration of the trail to fix the damage caused by the latest flooding but now they need help putting matting and grass barriers in place.
They need this on Saturday, September 8th.
To sign up send an email to Don Logelin email@example.com or go to the Pikes Peak Chapter of Trout Unlimited web site (ppctu.org). Additional details will be provided to those that have signed up.
The Gill Trail which gives access to Cheesman Canyon has been damaged due to a recent localized rain event that washed out the trail and road leading to the upper trailhead. This event caused the closing of both until the area can be restored. Volunteers and staff from the Coalition For the Upper South Platte (CUSP) have worked to reopen the road and trail but the hillslope needs additional stabilization to reduce sediment flows from future rain events.
Volunteer work includes: improving existing trails; hiking on moderate terrain, installing erosion control matting, carrying tools with a personal backpack.
