Jeff Hatton

Colorado native born in Denver, schooled in Frederick and graduated high school in Longmont 1979, Journeyman iron-worker at age 20. Commercial fly tier in 1982. I tied for A.K. for 3-4 years then moved to the west slope town of Paonia. I have worked in tackle shops and for guide services in the delta grand jct. area along with a 5 year stint as the Production manager and harvest foreman for Whiting Farms.
I have also spent some time at the Lands End Sculpture center and foundry(one of the best in the world!!) as a floating foundry man capable of all aspects of sculpting and casting bronze using the lost wax method of investment casting. Check out “the Legacy” sculpture  on the Scripps-Oceanographic center website in La-Holla Ca. We did that family group of gray whales life sized and they are installed in front of the Aquarium there {2nd largest cast bronze in the US and fourth largest in the world at that time}.
Corksmith @ SCOTT rods from 1997-2000.
2000 to the present has included my owning and operating Gnomish Rod works and helping out at the foundry and being an Adjunct Professor of advanced fly fishing guide skills @ CMC Timberline Campus Leadville Co for 4 years and in 2005 I became a published author with the release of my book titled “Rod Crafting- A full color written & pictorial history from 1843-1960“.
I am also the owner/curator of the “Gnomes Traveling Rod Show” the only traveling museum dedicated to the evolution of the fishing rod in the world. A two hundred year look at the evolution of our beloved tool.
